But the National Executive under Henderson's influence took the opposite view, which was confirmed by a special Labour Party Conference on 14th November. 45 A Short History of the Labour Party Clynes reluctantly obeyed the injunction to leave the government; but Barnes and others refused to resign and so forfeited their membership of the Labour Party.
